This hurricane created millions of dollars worth of damage. Houses were destroyed and many lives were lost. Galveston's once great economy was reduced to almost nothing because of all the damage done by this storm. Thousands of people were killed, and almost every building in the city was just a pile of bricks and wood because of this storm. Nearly every business in the city was destroyed and would take months to get running again (if the owner was alive)!
This is a picture of what used to be a house. People used to live in that pile of wood. It is one of the many houses that crumbled on the island because of the hurricane.
This picture is an example of how bad the death toll was. Almost 10,000 people died due to this hurricane. That is more than 5 times the amount of people that died on the Titanic. This hurricane brought tragedy and misfortune to Galveston.
This picture is of a boat, on land! It must have been washed on to the island during one of the many storm surges of the hurricane. This shows how bad Galveston flooded .
